The base and arms appear to be polished metal but are actually plastic. The position of the seat relative to the back is way more reclined than I would like so I find myself leaning forward without back any support the majority of the time so I can reach my keyboard. One good thing is the height - I'm 6'-2" and my feet don't touch the ground when it's all the way up. I would find another chair if there were that option....Dont buy this chair. The weight you place on the back of the chair is displaced to two single screws which screw into the plywood on the bottom portion of the chair. The first time I leaned back, I could hear the screws cracking the plywood underneath. After leaning back further, the back reclined to the floor. The screws completely ripped out of the bottom of the chair. I assembled the chair correctly, it seems to be a design flaw. Other reviewers have also noted this flaw.Because of the good reviews, I bought this chair as a gift for my husband's home office. It looked great, but since he weights more than 110 lbs., it lacks support at the base of the back of the chair. I expect the back to snap off at any point. When he sits down in the chair, the back reclines automatically. When he unlocks the base to recline, his head almost hits the floor.Looks elsewhere for a quality chair.We purchased this chair after reading the reviews and testing it in an office store. It seemed fine at first, however, the chair broke after just six months of use. I am a small woman, 5'2" and of modest weight so my frame should not have been an issue in the durability of the chair. Nevertheless, the back gave out and it is broken beyond repair and now needs to be replaced. Look elsewhere for an office chair.Very comfortable and great price but it is naturally a bit too reclined for my taste.Purchased this chair from Amazon July 2017 and it is already broken after 2 months. The chair also doesn't recline. The chair is comfortable when it isnt brokencomfortable chair for a great price!We love the chair. It is soft leather but firm support. it feels like a marshmallow enveloping your body but the firmness is great.My boss absolutely loved it!
