Never insert the tip of the blade into the sharpening slot first, or push your knife blade through the sharpening slot. This could damage your sharpener and/or the knife blade. Always keep the knife blade parallel to the counter top, so the blade contacts the both sides of the Carbine and/or the Ceramic sides equally. The blade should be straight up and down within the sharpening slot at all times, thus insuring a precise sharp edge center of the blade at all times. Hold your knife securely but comfortably in your hand and use light downward pressure to contact the sharpening edge of the Carbine and/or the Ceramic. Any commercial Sharpener, purchased in a store or on the internet can be used to sharpen the GrooveTech knife blades. The slightly hollow long edge is a GrooveTech transition technology creating a slight air pocket between the cutting edge and the air containing non stickgrooves of the blade.
